David R. Cheney, 62, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 13, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Daley) Cheney with whom he shared 37 years.
He was born in Melrose, MA on December 13, 1960, and was the son of Margaret (Thomas) Cheney and the late David Cheney. David was raised and educated in Melrose, MA. He was a graduate of Melrose High School, class of 1979. David obtained his associate degree at New Hampshire Vocational Technical College in 1981. He was later employed as a graphic artist and printer at Eastern Rainbow in Derry, NH for 24 years. David was an EMT at Pride Star, serving the Merrimack Valley. He also dedicated his time as a volunteer firefighter in Sandown, NH. He retired as a captain after 32 years. He was a selectman in the town of Sandown and head of the transfer station. After retirement David remained active in the community he loved. David enjoyed cooking, games, live bands, and dad jokes. Above all else, he cherished time with his family. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his children Kaitlyn Cheney of Derry, NH, Matthew Cheney and his partner Samantha Bates of Derry, NH and Erica Cheney of Sandown, NH. His siblings Darlene Bowen and her husband Charles, Cheryl Sateriale and her husband Alan, Peggy Wass and her husband Robert, and Brenda Pothier. His sister-in-law Janice Elks and her husband John, and his mother-in-law Barbara Daley. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David was sadly predeceased by Kathleen's mother Patricia Daley, as well as her father John J. Daley Jr., and his brother-in-law, Robert Pothier.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, August 20, 2023 from 11am – 3pm at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 21st, 2023 at 10am at the First Baptist Church of Plaistow for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sandown Food Pantry P.O Box 1756 Sandown, NH 03873
