Atkinson, NH: David R. Champagne, 77, of Atkinson and formerly of Haverhill passed away peacefully on November 3, 2020, at High Pointe Hospice House, with his family by his side.
Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, son of the late Lawrence and Pauline (Wildes) Champagne, he attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a member of the Haverhill Trade School Class of 1961. David served in the U.S. Army as a Specialist 4 and was stationed in the Dominican Republic from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1970.
David worked for Lucent Technologies, the former AT & T and Western Electric for thirty-nine years, as a sheet metal worker, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed snowmobiling for thirty-two years with frequent trips to Maine and Canada. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. He took many cruises and frequently visited Aruba and Las Vegas, and enjoyed his garden and many gatherings at his pool with family and friends. David especially loved his grandchildren who called him "Papa".
He was the beloved husband of Diane (Beauregard) Champagne for thirty-five years, and also leaves behind his stepson, Richard J. Rousseau, and his wife Terri of Plaistow, a stepdaughter Lynn D. Rowe of Haverhill, MA, his sister Claudia and her husband Ronald J. Siergiej of North Andover, MA., grandchildren, Sydney, Serena and Jacob Rousseau of Plaistow, and Zachary and Shelby Rowe of Haverhill, brother-in-law, Richard Beauregard and his wife, Joan; brother-in-law Gary Beauregard and wife Albina; sister-in-law Elaine Huberdeau and her husband, Thomas, and sister in law Gladys Champagne. He was predeceased in July by his brother Anthony Champagne.
A private graveside service will be held at Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Haverhill, under the direction of Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home of Plaistow.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the High Pointe House and the Holy Family Hospital in Haverhill for the exceptional care that David received. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Emmaus House at 127 How St., Haverhill, MA 01830.
