March 6, 1944 – March 12, 2025
Daniel J. Harty, 81, a resident of Atkinson, NH died on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Alma (Ovitt) Harty.
He was born in Methuen, MA on March 6, 1944 and was the son of James and Louise (Hemmer) Harty. Daniel was raised and educated in Methuen and was a graduate of Northern Essex Community College with a Liberal Arts Degree. He was a Vietnam War Era Veteran of the U.S. Army and served in both Newport News, VA and Fort Dix, NJ. In his early years Daniel worked in the mills of Lawrence, Ma. and later employed as a salesman for in the hazardous waste industry. Daniel last job before retirement was for Covanta in Haverhill, Ma as mercury coordinator where he was affectionately known as "mercury man". He enjoyed reading, long walks and generally socializing wherever he ended up going. In his last few years', he spoke often of his wonderful memories traveling with his wife, Alma. He was known for his sense of humor and especially enjoyed British comedy. For over 20 years Dan was a volunteer at New England Pediatric Care and would stop there several times per week to visit with the children who were in long term nursing care. He was well known through the years to be thrifty and enjoyed shopping for small toys and books that he could give to the children at church, at cook outs or to his grandchildren.
Daniel is survived by his daughter Suzanne Harty of East Hartford, CT, and son Daniel Harty II and his wife Harriet of Townsend, MA, his granddaughter Amanda Libby and her husband Levi, and grandson Jacob Paulhus, his 7 beautiful great granddaughters Tayler, Rosie-Elizabeth, Sophia, Michaela, Aliyana, Laila and Charlotte Libby. He was very proud of all his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with each of them.
He was predeceased by his siblings Donald Harty, and Richard Harty.
Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Friday, March 21, 2025 from 11am – 12pm at the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home 116 Main St. Plaistow, NH. A funeral service will follow at 12pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be held at a later date.
