Boxford, MA:  Daniel J. Devlin, 93, of Boxford and formerly of Charlestown, died peacefully on September 9, 2019 surrounded by the family he so cherished.

Dan grew up in Charlestown, MA and enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1942, joining his two older brothers who were already serving.  He was honorably discharged and was a recipient of the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, The Europe/Africa/Middle East Campaign Medal with 2 Stars, The WW II Victory Medal, the United States Navy Combat Action Commemorative Medal and the Sea Service Commemorative Medal.

Upon his return following his service, Dan worked at Chelsea Clock where he met Margaret "Peg" Ryan.  Dan and Peg married in 1950 and raised a family of six children (three boys and three girls) in Arlington, MA and then in North Andover, MA.  Dan worked at Mass Institute of Technology until age 65.  Following his retirement, he remained active in home projects and gardening in Boxford, MA.

Dan will most be remembered for his devotion to family, and was at his happiest when in the company of his family and his pets.  Dan was pre-deceased by his wife, Peg in 2009 and then by daughter, Janet M. in 2014, son, Patrick J. in 2015 and son, Thomas F. in 2017.  He is survived by two daughters, Eileen of North Andover, MA, and Jude of Madison, NH, a son, Daniel P. of Swampscott, MA and daughter-in-law, Karen Devlin of Amesbury, MA, as well as several loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dan lived a life with a kind, loyal and generous spirit.  He was a life-long avid fan of all the Boston sports teams, most notably his beloved Patriots.  He was always available to help coach his own and other children in the youth sports programs of North Andover.  He supported with great devotion local and national charities.  He loved all animals and over the years adopted countless cats and dogs, providing them with a loving home.

A private graveside service with Military Honors will be held at the Ridgewood Cemetery in North Andover, MA, where he will be joining his dearly missed Peg, Tom, Pat and Janet in eternal and peaceful rest.  Any donations of your choosing can be made to the American Kidney Foundation or the animal shelter of your choice.
