Obituary

Custer A. "John" Cole, 96, a lifetime resident of Haverhill, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023 at his home in Haverhill surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Snyder) Cole who passed in 1999.

He was born on September 22, 1927 and was the son of the late Custer S. and Cora (Butrick) Cole.

Custer was a graduate of Haverhill High School. While in high school he worked at Butrick's Dairy in Haverhill, the family business. He enlisted in the United States Navy proudly serving his country during WWII. He earned his degree in mechanical engineering at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. He obtained his teaching credentials from Fitchburg State University. Custer taught mechanical drawing at Whittier Tech night school for several years. He was employed as a machinist at Sylvania. In his later years he was a sales representative at Reynolds boat company, Porro's boat shop and Marble Motors, all in Haverhill. He was a member of Amvets post 147 in Haverhill and was treasurer of boy scout troop 5 in Haverhill for over 50 years. Custer also served as president of the Haverhill Men's Club. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children Micheal Cole and his wife Angella of Haverhill, Cheryl Owen and her husband Dana of Texas and Lisa San Antonio of North Carolina, his 4 grandchildren, and his two great grandchildren. He also leaves behind three nephews.

Custer was sadly predeceased by his brother Richard Cole.

Funeral service and interment were held privately.
