Obituary

Conrad "Connie" Remare, a native and lifelong resident of Beverly, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family at The High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill on November 24, 2018 at the age of 92.

Born in Beverly, he was the son of the late Carlo and Irena (Diappoloni) Remare and graduated from Beverly High School. Conrad was a beloved father, grandfather, uncle, loyal friend, and intrepid sailor…"It's not a boat; It's a ship." From 1943 to 1945, he served in the US Navy in WW II aboard  aircraft carriers USS Bogue CVE-9 in the Atlantic and then aboard the USS San Jacinto CVL-30 in the Pacific, earning the WW II Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, American Area Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

He was a fearless crime fighter as a longtime patrolman and Range Master on the Beverly Police Department "Fifty-six! That's my old badge number!", and as a courier for the Beverly National Bank. He was a member of the  AmVets Post Vittori-Rocci of Beverly and the Beverly Italian American Club.

He was an avid reader, a barber with a particular fondness for the double aught clipper, a fisherman, hunter, carpenter, tool and gadget collector who always had the right-size batteries, and a military history aficionado, especially the Navy's involvement in WW II. A teller of countless stories and inventor of hilarious and unique sayings for any occasion, he was also a saver and re-reader of every greeting card, and a collector of momentos, especially his grandchildren's creations, all over twenty years-old and still hanging up. He was generous to a fault, a lover of desserts, especially anything with whipped cream, and an enthusiastic Sunday rummy player with Dean Martin singing Italian songs in the background.

Conrad leaves behind his daughter Lisa Fish and her husband Donald of Kingston NH, his son Kenneth Remare and his wife Mattie of SD, grandchildren Christopher, Chloe, and Steven, great-grandchildren Lucas and Skylar and his beloved and devoted companion Claire Nelson with whom he spent many happy hours filled with great conversation, laughter, and war stories while watching Judge Judy. He also leaves many wonderful and caring nephews and nieces who made sure he always knew how much they loved him, and countless friends; Many called Matilda and what's-his/her-name. He is predeceased by his eight siblings and infant son Steven Conrad.
