Hampton, NH: Claire P. (Plante) Surprenant, 91, a former longtime resident of Hampton and business owner at Hampton Beach, died peacefully on February 17, 2023 at The Terraces in Orleans, Massachusetts.

Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Roland Plante and Irene (Phaneuf) Plante, she attended Saint Joseph Grammar School and graduated from Saint James High School with the Class of 1949. She went on to attend MacIntosh Business School.

A resident of Hampton Beach for thirty-five years, Claire and her late husband Paul, owned and operated the Beach View Motor Inn and Hampton Beach Super Market, and later purchased and operated the Sea Castle Motel before their retirement. They were well respected members of the Hampton Beach community and created a warm and inviting atmosphere at the Inn for their seasonal and long-term guests.

After selling their businesses, they moved to Hampton Meadows. A longtime active member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish, she was active with the Stephen Ministries and later moved to The Boulders at River Woods in Exeter. She enjoyed her time in Exeter as a member of Saint Michael's Parish and spending time playing bridge and card games with her many friends. A resident of Cape Cod since 2016, Claire resided in Brewster and was a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish of Orleans. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she also enjoyed painting.

Predeceased by her husband of fifty-eight years, Paul I. Surprenant, she is survived by and lovingly remembered by a son Stephen P. Surprenant of Seabrook, NH, a daughter Marie Gould of Brewster, MA, three grandchildren, Christyn K. (Surprenant) Kohrherr and her husband Dustin of Dover, NH, Alex Surprenant and his wife Amanda (Raiche) of Denver, CO, and Stephanie Gould of Brewster, MA, a brother Richard Plante of Omaha, NE, and other extended family members and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to Claire's Funeral Mass to be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH. A reception in the church hall will immediately follow the Mass. Private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to: St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN. Arrangements are under the direction of Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA.
