Sandown, NH: Claire M. Kontos, 55 a resident of Sandown for twenty years, died Saturday, March 4, 2017.

Born, raised and educated in Boston, daughter of the late George and Eleanor (Magee) Kontos, she graduated Boston Latin School with the Class of 1979 and received her degree in Animal Science from the University of New Hampshire.

Claire dedicated her life to the betterment of the lives of animals and was the Executive Director of Doberman Rescue Unlimited of Sandown, an organization that she established several years ago.

Claire also served the Town of Sandown for many years as the Animal Control Officer as well as a consultant to the Town of Chester.

She trained and cared for so many dogs and enjoyed horseback riding and carriage riding.

Claire will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by a sister, Carol Kontos-Cohen and her husband Stephen of New Jersey, three brothers, Richard L. Kontos and his wife Kristina of Florida, Bob Kontos and James Kontos, both of Massachusetts and a nephew, Erik Downs of Florida.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, March 10, 2017 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow. A service of remembrance will follow at the funeral home at 5:45. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Doberman Rescue Unlimited, 52 Tenney Rd., Sandown, NH .
