Obituary

Newton NH: Chester "Chet" David Connors, 71, an entertainer with the voice of an angel and devilish charm died suddenly October 22, 2018. Chet was born June 26, 1947 to the late John and Dorothy [Dunn] Connors of Medford, MA.  He was a graduate of Medford High School and was involved in theatre and performed with "Up With People", a traveling theater troupe where he crooned show tunes and purportedly broke a few hearts.

Chet served in the US Air Force as a Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Alamogordo, NM in 1970 where he met and married his first wife Catherine Lilly, a fellow musician. They moved back to the Boston area, had four children, Kathleen, Shawn, Chad and Megan and started a band.  For more than twenty years the "Chet Connors Band" performed in New England area venues and was locally famous for country club events and weddings. He was the quintessential "MC" and lead singer.

Simultaneously, Chet built a distinguished career in the food service industry that lasted for more than thirty-five years; most of those years were spent with DAKA/COMPASS as regional district manager overseeing the food services at colleges and prestigious private schools throughout  New England. During his career he was honored to serve on the Massachusetts Committee for the Hiring of the Handicapped.

He was predeceased by his wife Catherine in 1989 and in  1991 Chet was fortunate to fall in love with an accomplished colleague, Peggy DuBois. They married and moved to Londonderry NH where they continued to raise the four children together. Both "foodies", Chet and Peggy loved to dine out together and take long drives in the country and to Cape Code particularly to Seagull beach, his childhood stomping ground. Recently they retired to Newton NH.

Chet was affectionate; quick to give a "Chetty Bear" hug and to tell his family he loved them. He was a gifted storyteller and enjoyed weaving tall tales to humor his grandkids.  He loved his family well and was adored by them in return. He enjoyed being a hockey coach for both of his sons for many years.

He is survived by his wife Peggy (Du Bois) Connors, his two daughters Kathleen Connors, of Andover and Megan Lowry and her husband Michael of Tornado, West Virginia, two sons Shawn Connors and his wife Kristen of Londonderry, NH and Chad Connors of Manchester NH, his grandchildren, Connor, Cassidy, Patrick, Meyer, MacKenna, Michael and Austin, Cody and Jazzy and his sister Dorothy Lavin of Dennis, MA.
