"Woody" Woodland
September 25, 1933 – February 6, 2025
Plaistow, NH: Charles J. "Woody" Woodland, Jr., 91, a resident of Plaistow since 2002, died peacefully on February 6, 2025 at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, MA, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Malden, MA, son of the late Charles and Elva (Crowell) Woodland, Woody graduated from Malden High School and later graduated from the Apprentice program at the Boston Naval Ship Yard. He went on to attend Northeastern University and graduated with high honors with his degree in Mechanical Engineering. Woody began his engineering career at Bolton-Emerson in Lawrence, MA, and later worked at Instrumentation Laboratory of Lexington and Abbott Laboratories of Lexington.
Before moving to Plaistow twenty-two years ago, Woody was a former longtime resident of Woburn, MA and twenty-five year member of the Woburn City Band. He played clarinet and saxophone and at one time was a member of his own band known as The Cavaliers.
He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Malden for many years. He transferred his membership to the First Baptist Church of Plaistow upon moving into town. He was an avid reader and traveler, visiting forty-nine of the fifty states of America. He also enjoyed woodworking, crafting several heirloom quality pieces of furniture for his family.
He is sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of seventy years, June L. (Svenson) Woodland, three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy L. and Solomon-Ikaika Bellisario of Lacey, Washington, Dianne C. and Gary Sherman of Tuftonboro, NH and Sandra G. and Edward Tomasi of Atkinson, NH; seven grandchildren, Christopher Sherman, Elyse Carpenter, Jeffrey Sherman, Kathryn Tomasi, Matthew Tomasi, Emily Tomasi and Brandon Bellisario; four great-grandchildren, Dakota, Blake, Trevor and Keola. He was predeceased by his brother Arthur H. Woodland.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours to be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main ST., Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will follow at 1:15 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will take place in Plaistow Cemetery in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.
