Charles Ronald
"Ron" Hills
November 29, 1939 – February 28, 2023
It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Charles Ronald "Ron" Hills, 83, of Haverhill, MA. He died peacefully on February 28, 2023, at Lahey-Hitchcock Medical Center in Burlington, surrounded by loving family.
Son of the late Charles L. and Mary "May" (Saulnier) Hills, Ron attended Saint Joseph Grammar School and graduated from Haverhill Trade School with the Class of 1958. He was employed as a mechanical draftsman at Raytheon Co. and retired in 1999 after forty-two years of service. He was a member of the IBEW.
Always a dedicated family man, Ron is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-three years, his high-school sweetheart, Sandra (DiVincenzo) Hills. He has one son and a daughter-in-law, Michael and Kathy Hills of Newton, NH, two daughters, Dr. Cheryl Hills, DMD, of Groveland, and Karen Hills and her fiancé John DiSalvo of Methuen, a brother and sister-in-law Wilbert "Butch" and Joan Hills of Atkinson, NH, and three grandchildren, Robyn, Sabrina, and Brady.
Ron was a life-long animal lover who most recently earned the affections of a little black rescue cat named Nero. Reaching the status of Eagle Scout in his youth, he knew more about birds and wildlife than most.
As a young man Ron played hockey. Older, he enjoyed a good game of golf. His hobbies also included reading, researching genealogy, and studying history.
Aside from family, Ron's greatest passion was traveling. Europe was his chosen destination, with Rome and the mountains of Switzerland being favorites. After retirement he landed his dream job with Dooney & Bourke, which took him to Italy more than twenty-five times!
Despite spending many summers in Wells, ME, he often said, "I live in Haverhill, and I'll die in Haverhill." But Ron did so much more than that. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many, his kind, generous, and gentle demeanor will never be forgotten. Nor will his warm, genuine smiles and perfect, fatherly hugs. It's hard to imagine our world without him.
