Bourque
April 9, 1925 – February 10, 2021
Haverhill: Charles J. Bourque, age 95, and a resident of Haverhill for the last sixty-eight years, died February 10, 2021 in Andover, MA.
Born and raised in Moncton, N.B., Canada, son of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Arsenault) Bourque, he attended local schools and served in the Canadian Army. A naturalized American citizen, Mr. Bourque moved his family to Haverhill in 1952. He was employed in the local shoe industry, working as a sole layer for several companies retiring from Lesande Shoe Co. In his retirement years, he enjoyed many winters as a resident of Zephyr Hills, Florida and also enjoyed spending time with his family during the summer months at his camp on Province Lake in Wakefield, NH.
Mr. Bourque was a longtime member of All Saints Parish of Haverhill and the former Saint Joseph Parish as well as the Haverhill Lodge of Elks. He enjoyed playing in a softball league in Haverhill, and was a member of the Merrimack Valley Horseshoe League and several local bowling leagues. He was an avid hockey fan, and an accomplished guitarist and especially enjoyed listening to Acadian music.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of seventy-four years, Francine M. (LeBlanc) Bourque, two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert C. and Debbie Bourque of Pelham, NH and David P. and Mariette Bourque of Plaistow, a brother Roger Bourque of Moncton, N.B., grandchildren, Jennifer Fiegel, Christopher Bourque, Nicole Bourque, Katie Blair, Jeffrey Bourque, Kelsey Bourque, Benjamin McKinley and Sheldon McKinley, five great-grandchildren, Megan, Ryan, Cailyn, Georgia and Elijah, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bourque was predeceased by his sons Valmond "Val" Bourque in 1970 and Norman Bourque in 1999, his four brothers, William Bourque, Gerard Bourque, Benoit Bourque and Joseph Bourque, and sisters, Alice Arsenault LaFontaine, Eva Dallaire, Theresa Saulnier, Delphine Gauvin, and Marianne Bourque.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours to be held on Sunday, February 14, 2021, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill under the Commonwealth of Massachusetts guidelines for social distancing and the wearing of masks. His funeral will begin on Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill. Due to the President's Day Holiday the burial will take place privately on Wednesday in Saint Joseph Cemetery. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the ALS Foundation for Life.
