Obituary

Catherine Marie (St.Hilaire) Cardillo-Bragg  passed away peacefully on 08/29/2023 due to complications from muscular dystrophy. Catherine was the daughter of Wilfred St.Hilaire and Mildred Donnellon St.Hilaire. Catherine was born January 10th, 1935 in Lowell, MA. Catherine is predeceased by her late parents Wilfred and Mildred St.Hilaire, her second husband Robert Bragg, first husband Peter Cardillo, and siblings Dorothy, James and Al. She leaves her children Peter and wife Victoria Cardillo of Boston, MA, James and wife Jhule of Londonderry, NH and a sister, Maryanne St.Hilare. She leaves her granddaughters Catherine, Gemma, and Evie Cardillo whom she adored. She also leaves several nieces and nephews as well as step-children Anette and husband Robert Mccaffrey, Elaine Morecroft, Michael and Wife Dianne Bragg. She leaves her beloved friend Joyce Brugman of Ocala, FL.

In Catherine's lifetime she attended St.Rita's Grammar School, St.Mary's High School, Edward F. Searles High School where she graduated in 1952, and Vesper George Art School. Catherine continued to further her education earning certificates for many courses over her lifetime. Catherine was a member of the undefeated Methuen High School basketball team her senior year of high school. As a lover of art she enjoyed painting with oils, cooking, reading history and mystery books, music, live theater, The Boston Pops Orchestra, and the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra. Catherine enjoyed sports and was a member of the Lawrencian Ski Club, watched Red Sox and Patriots games. She also coached "The Flyers," her son's baseball team to a championship in 1978, becoming one of the first women in Methuen to coach a boys baseball team. She was skilled in her work on the computer and over the course of her lifetime received many certificates for computer literacy.

After high school Catherine worked at Kimball Gilman Insurance Co. of Boston, MA until she joined the United States Navy in 1953. After joining the Navy she was stationed at the San Diego Naval Training Center where she was chosen to be a cheerleader for the Navy football team. 10 months later she was transferred to Moffett Field, CA where she attended flight school and became a stewardess for Military Air Transport Service. She flew with "MATS" to such places as Alaska, Texas, Japan, Washington DC, Hawaii, and the Philippines. The highlights of her career with the Navy include traveling the south pacific islands with the cast of South Pacific Musical, and flying Bob Hope and Ginger Rogers to Anchorage, Alaska for their holiday show for the troops. Catherine's travel with the US Navy holds some of her fondest memories. Upon being discharged from the Navy in 1957 she received the good conduct medal, and the national defense service medal. Catherine's love for travel was not lost after her time with the US Navy. As a civilian she traveled to Mexico, Ireland, France, England, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Venezuela, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Guatemala.

Upon discharge she began working at Western Electric Co. She was promoted to an all men's department, when equal rights laws were passed. She also participated in a safety commercial for the company, which aired on the radio. Catherine met her husband Peter whom she had her sons Peter and James with. She had 12 years with Peter, which she cherished. She retired as Monitoring Secretary at the Greater Lawrence Sanitary District.
