Atkinson, NH: Carol A. (Pancko) Grant, 73, of Atkinson, died on May 1, 2018 at her home.
Born in Ft. Jay, NY on July 10, 1944, the daughter of the late Anthony F. and Kate (Dixon) Pancko, she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education at Trenton State College. She worked as a teacher for the Boston school system at the Mary Curley School in Jamaica Plain and taught History and Social Studies at Haverhill High School, Haverhill, MA.
An active citizen of the Town of Atkinson, she served on the Town of Atkinson's Conservation Commission from 1974 to 1977, serving as chairman in 1975 and 1976, the Board of Selectman from 1980 to 1983, serving as chairman from 1981 to 1983 and the Planning Board from 1980 to 1983, and as ex officio of the Municipal Budget Committee in 1980.
A member of the former Holy Angels Parish, she was also a member of the Scenic By-Way Committee, and the Daffodil Committee. She helped to establish Elder Services in Atkinson to serve the needs of Atkinson's senior citizens and was involved in the creation of Atkinson's Town Vietnam War Memorial. She was a member of Atkinson's Historical Society, a Den Mother for Cub Scout Den 2 and was an ardent protector of the wetlands.
A certified E.M.T, she held a private as well as commercial pilot's license and was certified as a Flight Instructor and performed in many competitions as an Aerobatics Pilot. She was a member of the Civil Air Patrol as a search and rescue pilot and also trained in ground search and rescue. She enjoyed participating in the Boston Marathon and also enjoyed competitive fencing and shooting.
She is survived by her husband of forty-eight years, Kenneth Grant; twin sons, U. S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Paul M. Grant and his wife, Lori of Savannah, GA and Edward D. "Eddie" Grant of Atkinson, NH; a grandson Sydney E. Grant, three brothers, Franklin Pancko of New Jersey, Anthony Pancko of New Jersey and Leonard Pancko of Oregon; three sisters, Lois O'Donnell of Maryland, Aeyne Ruzicka of Illinois and Katherine of Oregon, and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Diane Mathie.
Relatives and friends may attend Carol's Life Celebration to be held on Monday, May 7, 2018, from 4 to 6 PM at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. Her Funeral Service will follow at 6:15 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lawrence Central Catholic High School.
