Atkinson, NH: Carmen Acevedo, 101, a resident of Atkinson since 2013, died on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her daughter and granddaughter. .
Born and raised in Hormigueros, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Joaquin and Dolores (Ramos) Rodriguez. She came to the United States in the 1940's and settled in New York City where she worked as a stitcher in the local clothing manufacturing industry. .
Mrs. Acevedo was an avid reader of romance novels and enjoyed watching old Spanish language movies. She was a strong, determined woman and mother and an advocate to educate her children. She was also a devoted grandmother and great grandmother.
She was the widow of the late Tomas Acevedo who died in 1997, and will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son, Jorge Seda of San Juan, Puerto Rico., a daughter, Rev. Miriam Acevedo of Atkinson, two sisters, Ana Luz Ramos of Puerto Rico, and Monin Padin of Georgia, grandchildren, Elizabeth Naters-Gamarra and her husband, Joshua Blaney, and a great-granddaughter, Emaline Violet Blaney-Gamarra. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mercedes Seda and a grandson, Jorge Seda, Jr.
Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, February 7, 2019 from 5 to 6 PM at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. Her funeral service will follow at 6:30 PM in the funeral home.
