Sandown – Carlene V. Demeritt, 93, died Saturday February 18, 2023 at the Colonial Poplin Nursing Home, in Fremont following a period of failing health.

Born March 15, 1929 in Haverhill, MA; she was the daughter of the late Carl and Hazel (Spencer) Buttrick.

Carlene was a graduate of Hampstead High School, Class of 1947. She was a recipient of the D.A.R. Award for good citizenship. For most of her life she was a homemaker, and had worked in the meat department for Don's Market, as a Nurses Aide at the Winthrop Nursing Home, in East Hampstead, as well as a clerk at the Hampstead Pharmacy. She was a member of the Danville Baptist Church for 30 years where she was a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Ladies Missionary Society, a Deaconess, and the Church Librarian. Carlene was also an avid reader, she enjoyed ceramics and gardening, she also loved trips to the mountains, or the beach where she could explore her great love of nature, birds, and wildlife, but most of all she was very devoted to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Members of her family include her son Norman Demeritt and wife Laurel of Hillsborough, NH; two grandsons Christian, and Matthew Demeritt, one great grandson Bryan Demeritt, one sister Constance Merrick of Haverhill, MA; many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Clifton L. Demeritt, her son Clifton L. Demeritt, Jr., her great grandson Dylan Demeritt, and her two brothers Robert and Ronald Buttrick.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
