Bettie was born in Kingston, NH on December 20, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Charlie P. Corson and Della M. (Young) Corson. She graduated from Sanborn Seminary as the class Valedictorian in 1946. During her high school years and beyond she worked at Christie Poultry Farm, progressing to office manager.
In 1960 she was elected as Tax Collector of Kingston and then was elected Town Clerk in 1970. She had the two offices combined in 1988, and worked tirelessly as Town Clerk/Tax Collector until her retirement in 2012, dedicating 52 years of service. During her years with the Town of Kingston she served on numerous boards and committees, including the Kingston Days Committee of which she was a member since its inception in 1990. She was in charge of the souvenir booth and also served as secretary and treasurer. The Kingston Days Committee awarded a granite bench in her honor in 2013. The engraved bench stands in a place of honor in front of the Kingston Town Hall.
Bettie was voted Woman of Achievement by the Kingston BPW. She was a Notary Public and Justice of the Peace, marrying many couples over the years in her role as a Justice of the Peace. She was an avid Red Sox fan and never missed watching a game on television, attending many games in Boston in her younger days. She played the banjo since childhood and enjoyed sing-a-longs around the campfire at local campgrounds sharing her love of music with all. She enjoyed crossword and sudoko puzzles, and scratch tickets. She drew large pictures for various holidays and special events which she displayed over her front door on Danville Road. She continued this for more than 50 years and people driving by the house looked forward to seeing what sign would be posted next over her front door. She loved to help people and knit afghans for sick townspeople - donating more than 700 of them over the years.
