Plaistow, NH: Barbara Jill (Atchley) Shorter, 75, a resident of Plaistow since 1996, died at her home on Sunday, November 9, 2025. Born in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Aubryn and Blanche (Chawziuk) Atchley. Jill was raised in Camp Hill, PA, attended local schools and was a member of the Trinity High School Class of 1968. She went on to attend the Pittsburgh Art Institute.

A former resident of Hampstead, NH from 1989 until moving to Plaistow, Jill was employed as a sales representative at Ethan Allen Furniture Store and then Ed's Carpeting and Flooring until her retirement in 2020.

An accomplished artist, Jill was a former member of Saint Anne's Parish of Hampstead, enjoyed cooking and was an avid reader.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sons, Ryan L. Shorter and his wife, Marykate, of Weston, MA, and Jason A. Shorter and his significant other Deborah Brackett, of Portsmouth, NH, a daughter, Jennifer R. Samson and her husband Seth, of Bryn Mawr, PA, a daughter-in-law, Johnna Shorter, of Portsmouth, seven grandchildren, Jack Shorter, Colin Shorter, Cameron Shorter, Max Shorter, Chet Shorter, Isla Samson, and Cooper Samson, a brother, Walter Atchley, of Burke, VA, two sisters, Karen Mitchell, of Media ,PA and Gail Jackman of Oxford, MD her former husband and father of her children, Ronald Shorter, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, John Atchley.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours to be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 10 a.m. until 12 Noon at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street Plaistow, NH. Her funeral service will follow at 12:15 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to take place in Plaistow Cemetery, Plaistow, NH.
