East Hampstead, NH: Arnold A. "Arnie" Sheltra , age 76 of East Hampstead, passed away on June 4, 2013 at Parkland Hospital in Derry, NH from complications of Myasthenia Gravis.
He was born on September 16, 1936 in Irasburg, VT the son of the late Howard and Eleanor (Lathe) Sheltra. He was raised and educated in Newport, VT and graduated from Newport High School Class of 1952.
Arnold served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1958 until the end of the Cuban missile crisis in 1962. He was honorably discharged.
He worked five years for United Farmers in Troy, VT as a milk tester. He then worked as a drafting engineer at Western Electric / Bell Labs in North Andover, MA for thirty-two years, retiring in 1996.
Arnold was very involved with Scouting for over forty years. He served as Cub Master for Pack 33 in Hampstead and also as an Assistant Scout Master. He found great pleasure teaching scouts wanting to earn merit badges. In his retirement he was able to spend more time in scouting. He also enjoyed camping and loved all sports.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alma (Gagne) Sheltra of East Hampstead, NH, his son, David Sheltra and his wife, Carol of Brentwood, NH, his grandsons, Timothy Sheltra of Steamboat Springs, CO and Zachary Sheltra of East Hampstead, NH and his brother, Stanley Sheltra of East Hampstead, NH. His camping buddy sister-in-law, Gabrielle Page as well as two other sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews also survive him.
