Arlene (Lavallee) Porter, 83, of East Hampstead NH, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, May 7, after a period of declining health.
Arlene was born on March 11, 1941, the daughter of Lionel and Madeline (Marcotte) Lavallee. She was raised in Haverhill and attended St. Joseph Grammar School and was a graduate of St. James High School class of 1958. Arlene worked in the medical field her entire adult life. In 1967, she moved to California and worked at several medical centers before marrying her husband, Paul S. Porter MD, in 1986. Paul and Arlene continued to live in California for several years before relocating to San Antonio, Texas where they remained until Paul's passing in 2009. Arlene returned to New Hampshire and settled in East Hampstead. Arlene was a member of a knitting group where she knitted for several charities including Emmaus House, the Pregnancy Crisis Center and the military. She was a member of the Pease Greeters, who welcomed home returning veterans. Arlene was also an avid reader and particularly enjoyed history and mystery novels. She also enjoyed gardening and was a gifted artist.
Arlene is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law Thomas and Mary Jane Lavallee of Plaistow NH, Leonard and Wendy Lavallee of Enfield NH, a sister Ruthann Morgan of Atkinson NH and sister-in-law Diane Lavallee of Haverhill MA, and several nieces and nephews including a very special niece Joanne Lavallee who lived with and cared for Arlene in her declining years. In addition to her parents and husband, Arlene was predeceased by her brother Stephen W. Lavallee, and her brother-in-law Kevin P. Morgan.
Services will be held on Monday, May 20, at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home 116 Main Street Plaistow NH. Visiting hours will be from 10:00am – 11:30am at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00pm at St. Anne's Parish, 26 Emerson Avenue, Hampstead, NH. Burial will immediately follow at St Joseph's Cemetery in Haverhill, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to Emmaus House, 127 How St., Haverhill MA 01830 or to St. Anne's Food Pantry, 26 Emerson Avenue, Hampstead NH 03841. The family would like to thank the staff at Aspen Hill Rehabilitation Center and The Residence at Wingate for the tremendous care and compassion provided to Arlene throughout her illness.
