Obituary

Haverhill: Angeline M. "Angie" (DeRoche) Sweeney, 103, of Haverhill went into the final quiet sleep of her glorious life to meet her husband, Bob, and to be in the company of so many of their relatives and friends. She departed life in the same manner as she lived, with grace, strength and unconditional love for her family and friends.

Angie was born on February 26, 1917 to Ephrem and Marie Anne (Gallant) DeRoche of Haverhill. She was a seventh generation direct descendent of Louis DeRoche, who was born in Normandy, France in 1707. Louis and his descendants migrated to Canada's Eastern Maritime Provinces to become a founding family of Prince Edward Island. Angie was the last of her generation whose parents moved from Prince Edward Island to the Merrimack Valley establishing a better way of life for many generations to come.

Educated in the Catholic tradition she graduated from St. Joseph's School and throughout her life she supported the School and Saint Joseph Parish, now known as All Saints Parish. She was a long time member of the Ladies of Saint Anne Society. Prior to creating a warm and loving home for her family, she worked in Haverhill's shoe and textile industries. Her artistic talent and eye for detail were used to put the finishing touches on products during the final stages of the manufacturing process. While raising her family she transferred those talents into providing the very best for her husband Bob and their five children.

Angie enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, crafting and drawing.  Skilled at knitting and crocheting, the family enjoyed the many hats, scarfs, mittens and booties she made over her lifetime. The warmth of those items extended well beyond the material itself but clearly showed her love and passion for perfection in everything she did. A kind hearted and generous woman, she will be remembered mostly for her love of dancing and celebrating any occasion. She danced at every opportunity, well beyond her 100th birthday.

Angie married Robert James Sweeney on January 12, 1944, and together they raised five children. They enjoyed seventy-one years of marriage until his passing in 2015. In addition to dozens of loving relatives and friends whom she stayed in close touch with, she is survived by her daughters; Carol A Sweeney of Lawrence and Gayle M Chatlosh and her husband Brian of Concord MA, her sons; Daniel H Sweeney of Annisquam, Steven M Sweeney of Narragansett RI and his spouse David A. Goetsch, and Dennis J Sweeney and his wife Deborah of Salem NH. She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren; Daniel J Sweeney and his wife Lisa, Sean M Sweeney and his wife Heather, Kris R Chatlosh and his wife Morgan Hardy, and Kelsey M Chatlosh and her partner Brett Williams. She also will be fondly remembered by her great-grandchildren Ryder and Ethan Sweeney. Having been a life-long Haverhill resident she leaves behind a large extended family and many friends including her close neighbor and caregiver, Linda Marcotte.

Having reached the remarkable age of 103, and been one of thirteen children, Angie was predeceased by all her siblings and in-laws as well as one daughter in-law, Sue C Cole. She will continue to be loved forever in the hearts of all who knew her. She never considered herself old. She was just young for a long time and always enjoyed entertaining the "kids" who were more than half her age.
