Alicia Maliszewski, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, in Haverhill, Massachusetts, at High Pointe House, at the age of 95. Born in Poland, Alicia lived a life defined by resilience, faith, and an unshakeable devotion to her family and her heritage.
Alicia’s life story is one of extraordinary courage. In the aftermath of World War II, she found herself in a displaced persons camp in Germany, where fate brought her together with her husband, Edward Maliszewski. The two formed an unbreakable bond amid the uncertainty of those years, and upon returning to Poland, they were married in 1948, beginning a partnership that would last a lifetime.
Together, Alicia and Edward built a family in Warsaw, welcoming two children into the world. In 1962, seeking opportunity and a brighter future, the family made a courageous journey to America, settling in Lawrence, Massachusetts. With characteristic determination, Alicia and Edward worked tirelessly to build a good life for their children in their adopted homeland. Alicia went on to forge a career as an engineering assistant at ITT, a role that spoke to her sharp mind and quiet capability.
Her Roman Catholic faith was the bedrock of Alicia’s life. It sustained her through hardship, guided her as a wife and mother, and remained a source of deep comfort and strength. Equally close to her heart was her pride in her Polish heritage. From her early years in Poland, where she was an active member of the Polish Girl Scouts, to her many years as a devoted participant in the Polish community in the New England area, Alicia never lost her deep connection to the culture, traditions, and people of her homeland. She carried that identity with her always.
Outside of work, Alicia’s world revolved around her family and the simple, beautiful things that brought her joy. She had a deep love of gardening and took great pride in the care she gave to her home. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and nourishment, where she expressed her love through cooking. In quiet moments, she could be found knitting or crocheting — handcrafts she pursued with patience and skill. Above all else, she cherished her family, and those who knew her best will remember her as a woman whose love was steadfast and unconditional.
Alicia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward Maliszewski, and her three sisters Czesia, Irena, and Donna.
She is survived by her son, John Maliszewski and his wife Doris of Maryland; her daughter, Maria Stack and her husband Michael of Plaistow, New Hampshire, whom she lived with; her grandchildren Brian, Jason, Jennifer, Jessica, and Alyssa; twelve great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family, all of whom were among her greatest joys.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, May 28, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home 116 Main St. Plaistow, NH. Her funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Bellevue Cemetery in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
