Haverhill: Alicia M. (Fiset) Berube, 91 a longtime resident of Haverhill, died July 7, 2022, at Atria Merrimack Place, in Newburyport after an extended illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Haverhill before moving to Newburyport in 2018, she was the daughter of the late Victor M. and M. Alicia (McNamara) Fiset. She attended Saint Joseph Grammar School and was a member of the Saint James High School Class of 1948. As a young woman, Alicia worked as a dental assistant to a local dentist before leaving the work force to raise her family. She later worked as a cosmetologist and hairdresser when her late husband Francis bought the Berube-Comeau Funeral Home in Haverhill. She also enjoyed her employment as a sales associate at the Bridal Loft in Salem, NH.
A homemaker for most of her life, Alicia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who enjoyed creating a warm and inviting home for her family. She was an accomplished seamstress and spent countless hours shopping clothing stores observing and admiring the most recent styles. Her final stop was at the fabric store to purchase material and patterns to create holiday outfits and overcoats for her four daughters as well as costumes for school plays, dance recitals, and Halloween. She was proud to pass that skill and knowledge to her four daughters and daughter-in-law. Alicia always had an eye for a great deal. She often worked into the night, sewing for her children as well as making and replacing widow treatments in her home. That DIY initiative extended to re-upholstering her furniture, refinishing flooring, and wallpapering and painting the rooms of her home. An avid reader of mystery novels, she enjoyed, skiing, ice skating, gardening, dancing, music concerts, and travel. Her favorite past-time was attending recitals and sports events of her children and grandchildren.
In her later years, her family purchased property in Moultonborough, NH on Center Harbor where she and her husband built a home. She enjoyed taking in the beautiful views of Lake Winnipesaukee and the surrounding mountain ranges. Summers in Northern New England were important to her, filled with cookouts and boat rides with family and friends.
A lifelong and active member of All Saints Parish and the former Saint Joseph Parish, Alicia donated her time to several parish committees and fund raising events. She was also an active member of the Presentation of Mary Academy Parents Guild, and Saint Joseph Grammar School Parent-Teacher Organization.
Predeceased in 2019 by her husband of sixty-nine years, Francis J. Berube, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters and sons- in- law, Andrea E. Kingsley of Melrose, Alicia M. and Michael Murray of Haverhill, Rosemary C. and Thomas Kilbridge of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, and Ellen L. and Paul Sickel of Plaistow, NH; her son and daughter-in-law, Francis J. and Charlene Berube, Jr. of Plaistow, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lucine and Richard Goudreault of Atkinson, NH, and Elaine Barker of Haverhill, fifteen grandchildren, Sean Kingsley, Allison (Kingsley) Parker, Heather Kingsley, Gregory Berube, Kevin Berube, Melissa (Berube) Conte, Monica (Berube) Thibault, Christopher Murray, Shauna (Murray) Upham, Timothy Murray, Lauren Sickel, Kadi Sickel, Derek Sickel, Julie (Sickel) Campbell and Chelsea Sickel; sixteen great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins and lifelong friends.
