Obituary

Alfred R. Douphinette, “Fred”, 91, longtime resident of Groveland, Massachusetts, passed away on Saturday June 20, 2026, at AdviniaCare Newburyport, Massachusetts, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Woburn, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Alice (Hodgon) Douphinette, and the brother to two, now departed sisters.

Fred was a familiar face in Groveland, where he ran a successful garage business, Fred's Auto, behind his home. He took tremendous pride in his work and was known for always going the extra mile for his customers. In a small town like Groveland, everyone knew Freddy, and most had a story to tell about him.

Fred and his beloved wife, Claire, treasured family camping trips and often packed up their grandchildren for adventures that created memories to last a lifetime. Whether he was snowmobiling, four-wheeling, or puttering around on his beloved Kubota, Fred was happiest when he was busy and outdoors.

One of Fred's proudest projects was building a Volkswagen Beetle, a labor of love that he eagerly shared with his children and grandchildren, making them part of the experience every step of the way. In his later years, he found joy in building birdhouses and giving them away to anyone who promised to "give them a good home."

Above all else, Fred was a devoted family man who would do anything for the people he loved. He was generous, hardworking, and, as anyone who knew him would tell you, a wonderfully stubborn Frenchman. He loved to dance, make people laugh, and be the center of attention whenever the opportunity arose.

Anyone who knew Fred likely heard one of his favorite responses. He would often begin by saying, "Fred." Then, with a smile and perfect timing, he'd add, "Because my name is Fred," before carrying on with the rest of his sentence. It became one of his trademark sayings and remains a fond memory for family and friends who can still hear him saying it today.

Fred's laughter, kindness, and unforgettable spirit will be deeply missed, but the stories, memories, and smiles he leaves behind will continue to bring joy to all who knew and loved him.

Fred will be sadly missed but forever in the hearts of his sons, Ronald Douphinette and his wife, Laura of Raymond, New Hampshire, Russell Douphinette of Groveland, Massachusetts, Alfred “Butch” Douphinette and his wife, Diana of Denmark, Maine, Scott Douphinette of Sandown, New Hampshire, son-in-law, Wayne Moreau of Groveland, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his wife of over sixty years, Claire (Lapierre) Douphinette, daughter, Anna (Douphinette) Moreau, sisters, Barbara (Douphinette) Pettipost, Ruth (Douphinette) Bagnall,

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to calling hours on Wednesday June 24, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, New Hampshire. A Mass of Christian Burial for Fred will be held the next day, Thursday June 25, at 10:00 AM, at Sacred Hearts Parish, 165 South Main Street, Bradford, MA. Interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery, 159 Main Street, Groveland, Massachusetts.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Fred's memory.
