Obituary


Georgetown, MA: Alfred L. DePietro, 99, a resident of Georgetown since 1963 died on May 16, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born, raised, and educated in Everett, MA, son of the late Carmine and Josephine
(Marsello) DePietro, he graduated from Everett High School. Following high school he served in the Civilian Conservation Corp, where he represented his unit in boxing tournaments and was a Civilian Conservation Corp Boxing Champion.

Mr. DePietro served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII from 1943 to 1946 and was a recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the American Service Medal. Mr. DePietro also served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952 and was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal, the Air Medal, and the United Nations Medal. He was honorably discharged with the rank of First Lieutenant.

Mr. DePietro was employed as an Instrumentation Engineer Foreman at Monsanto Chemical in Everett from where he retired after fifty years of service to the company.

A member of many company golf, softball, and bowling leagues, Mr. DePietro was an active member of St. Mary's Parish in Georgetown. He served as a Cantor for many years and enjoyed volunteering whenever possible. He was also a member of the Frank Meader Council of the Knights of Columbus and the V.F.W. in Georgetown and enjoyed woodworking, repairing things, and traveling around the world with his late wife, Margaret. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his beloved dog, "Max".

He was predeceased by his wife of sixty-seven years, Margaret M. (Mastrangelo) DePietro in 2011, and is survived by his son Alfred J. DePietro and his loving companion Kathleen Will of Georgetown, a brother, Robert DePietro of York, Maine, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, May 19 from 9 to 10 a.m. at BERUBE-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Georgetown, MA followed by burial with the rendering of Military Honors by the United States Air Force in Harmony Cemetery.
