Obituary

Kingston, NH: Alan Richard Gauthier, 83, a resident of Kingston since 2016, died, following a long illness, on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Exeter Hospital, with his family by his side.

Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, he was raised in the Bradford section of the city and attended his neighborhood schools. He was a member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1957 and received his Bachelor's Degree in Business from Northeastern University in 1962. That same year, he married the love of his life, Eileen Trombley and they moved to Fort Lee, VA while he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1963 until 1965.

Following his honorable discharge from the service, they relocated to Norwich, Connecticut, while he was employed as a Division Manager for Sears Roebuck and Co. He was later hired as the Division Manager for Montgomery/Ward Co, in Nashua, NH and was employed by them until his retirement.

A resident of Salem, NH for fifty years, Alan and his family were active members of Mary Queen of Peace Parish, where Alan was a member of the parish choir. He was a member of the Salem Men's Softball League, The Salem Senior Golf League and the Montgomery/Ward Softball League. Alan was totally devoted to his family and supported his children in all of their endeavors, including their sports and academic accomplishments.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Eileen (Trombley) Gauthier, a son and daughter-in-law, Brian A. and Susan Gauthier of Kingston, NH, a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah L. and Bryan Macy of Salem, NH; four grandchildren, Elissa, Shauna, Jenna-Ray and Nicholas; three great-grandchildren, Grace, Kristopher and Benjamin; as well as several extended family members. He was predeceased in 2007 by his grandson, Christopher, and also by his mother, Elizabeth (Goodwin) Gauthier, his grandmother, Pauline Goodwin and aunts Norma Goodwin and Virginia Webster, who were all significant to his life during childhood and later in his life.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours to be held on Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH. His funeral will begin on Monday, April 3, at 11:30 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. in Saint Anne's Church, Emerson Avenue, Hampstead, NH. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery, Merrimac, MA.
