Atkinson, NH: Alan D. Benger, 83, a resident of Atkinson since 1962 died on July 10, 2015 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH.
Born in Cambridge, MA, son of the late Albert E. and Margaret (Kruger) Benger, he was raised in Belmont, MA and graduated from Belmont High School with the Class of 1950. He went on to attend the University of Maine and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry. Mr. Benger served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War at Fort Bliss from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1958.
Mr. Benger was employed by the United States Forestry Service in Montana for many years. He was later employed at Raytheon Company as a Program Manager and retired in 1992 after thirty-three years of service.
Mr. Benger was a founding member of the Christ the King Lutheran Church in Nashua. He was also a founding member and Lay Interim Preacher of the Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church in Salem.
Mr. Benger was active in Atkinson civic affairs and enjoyed vegetable gardening and singing in his Church Choirs.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Lois (Fenton) Benger, four sons and daughters-in-law, John F. and Sharon Benger of Lexington, NC, Stu and Beth Benger of Hull, MA, Bill and Jeanne Benger of Cumberland, ME, and Daniel A. and Karen Benger of Methuen, MA, thirteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
There will be a private family funeral service to be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 followed by burial in Atkinson Cemetery.
